BA IN OFFICE ADMINISTRATION & SECRETARIAL PRACTICE


Office Administration & Secretarial Practice is a 3 year Bachelor Degree programme consisting 6 semesters. There has been a substantial & constant call for qualified office managers, customer care representatives in MNC, secretaries, public sector companies, hotels etc. 


Course Objectives:-

  1. To encourage Knowledge and Skills required setting up the private venture in this area.
  2. To provide the knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.
  3. To equip the students with the skills for immediate employment as a Secretary or Office Assistant.
  4. To develop the skill of taking dictation in Shorthand and transcribing the matter on the Type writer/Computer.
  5. To prepare the students to develop the skill of drafting different sorts of business and official letters and notes.
  6. To develop skills required for managing, preparing and handling of office records & information.




Job Potential:

The successful competent students are well versed enough with the operation of modern offices equipments and having better office management abilities. Students get more exposure to the job profiles like executive assistant, personal secretary, administrative officer/assistant.

  1. Commercial/Shorthand-Typing institute, Computer Job Work, Computer Institutes, Freelance Stenographer/Secretary.
  2. Manager, Private secretary, Stenographer, Personal/Confidential Secretary or Assistant, Clerk-cum Typist, Call Centres, KPO, BPOs, etc.

Course Curriculum:

The course modules comprises of the introduction to communication methods (written, verbal), report writing (English), language exercises, note making and minutes writing, composition and grammar. Basically, the faculty targets on developing the skills like, stress and intonation in communication, phonetic transcription and presentation practices.

The students are being taught company law & banking services, book-keeping and accountancy. For students both practical lab sessions and field vulnerability are highly important.


Skills To Be Developed:


Letter writing, method of preparing directive of understanding, effective documentation, precise writing, updated computer packages and their applications are the skills that must be developed apart from good communication skills.

One should be cognizant of schedules, travel agencies and associated tariffs related to the nature of work, time tables, if one is preparing for boss’s routine if one is organizing the boss’s routine.


Campus placements:


The doors are open in most of the institutes and in particular is the private sector that offers placement assistance. Depending on the place of work and the city, the initial salaries range from Rs. 8,000 to 20,000, but here you have to show your potential as a lot more depends on your own ability and experience.

The job opportunities in this sector are widely spread in areas such as Government Department Offices, Airport Departments, Business/Commercial Organizations, Railway Undertaking Departments, Industrial Establishments, Hospitals, Educational Institutions, Transport Departments, Banking and Insurance Organizations, Job-Work Centers.


Get Competence:


The student of Secretarial Practice is anticipated to bring in a fairly reasonable competence at the end of 3 year B.A. Degree Course in Office Management:

  1. Secretarial skills for performing job-related tasks in any company.
  2. Presentation skills using audio-visual aids.
  3. Dexterity in both spoken and written English and competence to handle correspondence independently.
  4. Ability to operate the following Window-based Computer Applications - MS-Word, Excel HTML, PageMaker, DTP, PowerPoint, & Multimedia.

  6. Ability to take initiative and work harmoniously as a contributing member of a team to attain organizational targets.
  7. Dexterity to manage routine Banking transactions.
