It’s a challenging but highly rewarding job. Marine engineering technology and techniques are used to create cruise ships, oil platforms and harbors. Bachelor's degree in marine engineering brings out for the students the fundamental concepts of marine propulsion ship design and fluid dynamics. 
Marine engineers are skilled professionals involved in the construction, design and maintenance of vehicles and structures used on or around water. Usually marine engineers have to involve themselves in activities such as commissioning, surveying, corrosion protection, repair etc.






ELIGIBILITY & DURATION INFO


The candidate should have passed +2 or equivalent in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The duration for the completion of this course is 4 years.


MEDICAL STANDARD


Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms with eye sight up to 0.5 distance vision with no color blindness. As well as the minimum height should be 157 centimeters.


ROLE OF A MARINE ENGINEER


Marine Architect, Marine Equipment Engineer, Marine Structural Designer, Naval Engineer, Ships Equipment Engineer. Those who are ready to take risks can look out for this highly challenging profession. A marine engineer is a professional who is responsible for the maintenance, installation, inspection, operation and repairing the entire major mechanical and engineered equipment on board a ship. The role of a marine engineer primarily involves doing tasks related to the operation and maintenance of different machineries in a ship. 
A wide range of systems are dealt by the Marine Engineers such as gas turbines, boilers, steam turbines, diesel engines, heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, electrical machinery, refrigeration machinery, hydraulic machinery, electrical systems, automation & control equipments, fire fighting equipments, cargo handling systems and so on.

Marine Engineers can find employment in transportation companies, Government agencies and scientific services. Some of the institutions recruit marine engineers to the post of junior engineers in merchant ships. This profession demands a high level of discipline, sincerity and responsibility since the chief marine engineer is in charge of a ship and its cargo which cost millions of dollars.  


SALARY INFO

Your initial package would be in the range of INR 45,000-INR 60,000 per month, if you became successful in grabbing a job in the public sector. Whereas, your salary is most likely to be in the range of INR 55,000-INR 70,000 every month if you get the chance to work in the private sector. As you gather experience, you can notice a nice hike in the cumulative salary package.
