COURSE INFO
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) is quite different from Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers renders the service related to aircraft and keeps the aircraft in perfect flying condition. It is basically associated with the designing, construction, development, testing, modification, overhaul, inspection and repair of an aircraft or aircraft component.
TWO MAJOR STREAMS OF AME
- Mechanical - that covers jet and piston engines, as well as light and heavy aircrafts.
- Avionics- that covers radio navigation and electrical and instrument systems.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Basically, B.Tech in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is for 4 years, the minimum eligibility for which is 10+2 or equivalent in science stream with PCM. It is compulsory to qualify in the Joint Entrance Examinations (J.E.E) FOR IITs. There is an upper age limit of 23 years to enter the programme.
PERSONAL SKILLS
Aeronautical engineers should have an eye for detail and be good at problem-solving. They need mathematical precision and design skills, computer skills and the capability to communicate well. They also require good planning ability and a knack for working under pressure. An aeronautical engineer is supposed to be physically fit and may need to often work at great speed especially in checking and maintenance of aircrafts during turnarounds. They must have a normal color vision.
COURSE, OPEN FOR BOTH MEN & WOMEN
Candidates have to appear for aircraft maintenance licensing examinations held by DGCA after the completion of training program. The licenses are issued for a particular type of aircraft. Hence, aircraft maintenance engineers who hold license of servicing Boeing planes are authorized to examine only Boeing aircraft and certify its fitness.
FEW OF THE JOB PROFILES
